A new exhibition within the framework of the European Heritage Days

On September 26, 2015  at “Erebuni” Historical & Archaeological Museum-Reserve was held the opening of the exhibition “From Erebuni to Persepolis. At the Crossroad of the Urartian and Achaemenid Cultures”. It was organized with the joint efforts of the Iranian National Committee for ICOM /International Council of Museums/  and “Erebuni” Historical & Archaeological Museum-Reserve  within the framework of the European Heritage Days in Armenia.

With the welcoming speech came up the director of the museum Mr. G. Gyurjyan, who presented  the significance of the Days and emphasized that the new exhibition, opened within the framework of the Days, was a new opportunity to  think about the  preservation and the important cultural significance of that two unique archaeological sites.

The national coordinator of the European Heritage Days in Armenia Gohar Grigoryan, the head of  Yerevan municipality Culture Department Emin Torosyan, director of the Music Library Guliko Nahatakyan, direcor of Iran ICOM Seyed Mohammad Beheshti  and the Executive Board member Alireza Gholinejad, as well as the president of ICOM Armenia Marine Haroyan  also came up with the welcoming speeches.  The opening ceremony was  followed by the concert “The folk music of the Van region” excellently  performed by  the choir of the Music Library. Visitors watched a film about the Persepolis  with great interest, after which  lectures were held on Erebuni and Persepolis.

Perhaps, the most remarkable moment of the day was the signing of the  Cultural Cooperation Memorandum  between  Armenia and Iran: by the presidents of Iran ICOM, ICOM Armenia and ICOMOS/Armenia. The exhibition  “From Erebuni to Persepolis. At the Crossroad of the Urartian and Achaemenid Cultures” will run until October 26, 2015.
